Chi Vitalizer Machine
This is the machine I own. It is used by placing your ankles in the padded cups while lying down on your back. The machine has a side to side motion that also oscillates slightly, swinging the feet left and right creating a comfortable rocking wave that travels from the toes to the top of the spine. There is a variable control for speed. The main benefit is the critical need for circulation of lymph and cerebral spinal fluid. I find the motion wonderful; it puts me to sleep every time. Increasing the speed has no therapeutic advantage. There are many “chi machines” on the market, many for less money. This is a professional unit, with generous padding (very important!) designed to last for decades.
Deluxe Inversion Table with Memory Foam Backrest
A more comfortable version of the machine I own. These are sometimes called “back swings.” The table adjusts to any sized person and pivots backwards as you raise your arms over your head. An adjustable strap holds the angle you choose. I have found that hanging completely inverted is too intense and ultimately short lived. I usually hang at about a 45 degree angle for about ten minutes while reading. The main advantage is the use of gravity to enable muscle stretching, spinal traction and the associated hydration of the intervertebral discs. Think of it as time to decompress after being on your feet all day. Gravity is not our body’s friend!
